Wavelink on the Road! HIMSS 2011

Happy Monday folks! As you know, we were on the road in sunny Orlando, Florida last week attending the 2011 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) show. Greg Berger sent along a couple of pictures he snapped, and I wanted to share them. We had several people taking photos and we’ll try to get some more posted this week.

We are attending a ton of shows, so take a peek at our Events page and stay up-to-date with our schedule.

Smartphones and Mobile Devices: What Data is Safe Anymore?

With our recent announcement about the soon-to-be released Smartphone support from Avalanche, we are obviously paying greater attention to not only just traditional mobile device management topics, but more and more to those that involve Smartphones, tablets, etc. I missed this column when it came out, but it brings up some very interesting questions regarding the safety of data on employee and corporate owned devices.

The column points to a recent California Supreme Court ruling that information contained on a mobile device, can be accessed by police without a warrant. Now, for most of us that means little, but the author makes a compelling case about how that could cause some serious security issues. For example, a doctor caught speeding and his device, which happens to contain confidential patient information, is confiscated.

“The potential consequences to the hospital are devastating: Not only must it inform patients of a privacy breach (an effort which can, by itself, cost millions of dollars). It may also face fines and legal action for allowing the information to be revealed in the first place.”

It brings up some very interesting, and valid, concerns about how information is kept safe. As a side note, we will be demonstrating our Smartphone support on the road, so if you’d like to discuss this or other Smartphone topics, stop by one of these shows and say hello.

Wavelink on the Road with Intermec!

We’re at the Intermec North American Sales Kickoff this week and wanted to get a quick snapshot up from last night. I also wanted to get a post up on something that happened a few weeks back. I’m sure many of you saw this headliner, simply due to the amount of publicity it generated. But, it does make you wonder about how much sensitive information is being carried around us in most everyday situations, such as the coffee shop, the grocery store, public transportation and so forth. Further, it proves the importance for organizations – whether they be University research centers, private firms, etc. – to manage and secure their mobile assets AND the data they house.

Check it out and post any thoughts you have!

Wavelink on the Road!

For those of you who are attending, stop by and say hello, or send along any pictures you have taken! Additionally, today we announced that the newest generation of Speakeasy will be available at the end of the month. You can read more about it here, and enjoy the pictures. We’ll snap more and post them to our Facebook page soon!

Mobile Health Apps on the Rise

Here is a good look at the rise in mobile health applications, and the potential factors still standing in the way of a quick industry-wide implementation.

We’ve known about, and discussed,  the expected jump in healthcare mobility and the road blocks to adopting enterprise level solutions within the industry. But the article does point out some good bits of information, including a staggering figure about the worldwide interest in mobile health (now commonly called mHealth) applications.

Check out the article and if you are in, or work with, the healthcare industry, join us at the 2011 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Show in February.

New Wavelink.com

Good afternoon! I just wanted to take a quick moment and mention that we’ve launched a new and improved Wavelink.com. I’m sure most of you have seen it by now, but I wanted to take a quick moment and highlight the new Find a Wavelink Partner feature.

The feature allows customers to find Partners based on specific criteria and/or location. We’re already seeing a lot of interest in “how can I add our company?” to the search results, so I wanted to take a quick moment and offer some brief instructions. Getting started is quick and easy. Simply log-in to the Partner Portal, and on the left you’ll see a Edit Your Partner Profile logo. Fill out your specific specialties, upload your logo, provide a sales contact  and you’re ready to go!

There’s going to be several more informative email announcements to our Partner community over the coming weeks and months on how to maximize this feature. While you’re uploading your Partner Profile, you can also make sure you are signed up for these email announcements by subscribing to the Wavelink Partner Connection. The registration button is just below the Partner Profile logo, on the left hand side of the page.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Wavelink Gets the Call at Cisco Architectural Trends 2011

On a personal note, it was a bit of a shock to go from a sunny Caribbean vacation to 16 degrees and 10 inches of snow in Minnesota. But that being said, I was excited nonetheless, to learn that we had been invited to participate in the 2011 Cisco Architectural Trends Event in Minneapolis right before Thanksgiving.

A lot of large organizations have been asking their Cisco Sales teams to learn more about how they can manage their Cisco 7921 and 7925 wireless phones with Avalanche. We conducted a training WebEx with a team of Cisco System Engineers last month, and the next thing we knew, we were packing our bags and heading to Minnesota to meet their customers.

It was a one day event with a full schedule of informative breakout sessions that were well attended by over 150 local and regional Cisco customers. We made some great new contacts and are looking forward to the opportunity to solve their Wireless Management challenges.

Stay tuned for more information on Avalanche and Cisco phones in the coming weeks, and in the meantime, here are a few photos I snapped while at the event.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Hand-helds to Improve College Courses?

Today’s entry comes courtesy of one of our Sales Rep’s, and it definitely classifies itself in the “Oh, how the times have changed” bin. The article covers how universities are now leveraging the power and flexibility of wireless hand-held devices to improve collegiate courses. The idea is that by utilizing these wireless devices, a new door is opened for classroom interaction, participation and attendance:

“Though the technology is relatively new, preliminary studies at Harvard and Ohio State, among other institutions, suggest that engaging students in class through a device as familiar to them as a cellphone — there are even applications that convert iPads and BlackBerrys into class-ready clickers — increases their understanding of material that may otherwise be conveyed in traditional lectures.”

It really is an innovative way to use some of the benefits of wireless devices. Remembering back to your college days, would you have ever pictured such a thing? I certainly didn’t!
